Expert lead paint inspections, lead abatement project management and air monitoring

Lead Consulting Services

GBM Environmental Consultants (GBM) has over forty years of experience providing lead paint consulting and testing services. GBM has performed hundreds of comprehensive and limited lead paint inspections utilizing  paint chip sampling. These inspections were performed for commercial and industrial facilities.

GBM has performed project management and air monitoring on lead abatement projects. GBM conducts field sampling of environmental and personal lead air samples, visual inspections and final clearance air sampling to verify that lead abatement containments/areas are safe for re-occupancy. GBM collects lead dust, soil, and wipes for the presence of lead.

GBM has extensive experience interfacing with lead abatement contractors during the course of lead abatement projects. GBM is well versed in EPA and OSHA regulations to aid clients with compliance. Federal and state laws and regulations require building to properly assess and manage the potential presence of lead-containing paint (LCP) prior renovation or demolition. GBM helps protect the safety of building tenants and the environment while reducing risk for building owners by providing professional lead consulting services. Failure to account for the proper removal of LCP can result in significant fines and project delays.

GBM helps building owners better understand applicable laws and regulations. These laws include the National Ambient Air Quality Standard for  lead in air (NAAQS) and the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Standard 1910.1025-Lead.

The National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for lead is 0.15 micrograms per cubic meter averaged over a three-month period. This standard applies to both the primary (health-based) and secondary (welfare-based) criteria. Areas are designated as either "attainment" (meeting the standard) or "nonattainment" (violating the Standard).

OSHA Standard 1910.1025 states that employers shall assure that no employee is exposed to lead at concentrations greater than 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air as an 8-hour time weighed average.

The action level for lead in air in an occupational setting is an airborne concentration of 30 micrograms per cubic meter of air averaged over an 8-hour work shift, which triggers requirements for exposure monitoring, medical surveillance (blood tests), and worker training. If exposures exceed this level employers must implement controls, provide protective gear, and monitor employees; if Blood Lead Levels (BLLs) hit 50 ug/dL (construction) or 60 ug/dL (general industry), workers must be removed from exposure.

GBM writes lead inspection reports and final reports for lead abatement projects. GBM collects photographic documentation for lead inspections and lead abatement projects.
